Partner Profile: Ingevity

Ingevity logoHeadquartered in North Charleston, South Carolina, Ingevity operates from 25 locations around the world and employs approximately 1,850 people.

Ingevity provides products and technologies that purify, protect, and enhance the world around us. Through a team of talented and experienced people, we develop, manufacture and bring to market solutions that help customers solve complex problems and make the world more sustainable.

Our products are used in a variety of demanding applications, including asphalt paving, oil exploration and production, agrochemicals, adhesives, lubricants, publication inks, coatings, elastomers, bioplastics and automotive components that reduce gasoline vapor emissions.

At Ingevity, sustainability is at the center of all we do. It’s born of our renewable raw material heritage, embodied in the IngeviWay spirit of our people and exemplified in our environmental stewardship. Likewise, our products are at the center of everyday life, helping make the air we breathe cleaner, the roads we drive on safer and smoother, everyday plastics biodegrade faster, and crops grow healthier and fuller. In short, Ingevity’s products help safeguard our world’s resources. And we’ve been doing that for 100 years.

Transforming your paving challenges into successful solutions

As a global asphalt technology provider, we design solutions to solve your most challenging problems while reducing costs, time and energy spent. Whether you’re looking to select the right emulsifier, learn about sustainable warm mix asphalt, or increase recycling, our team of experts can help.

We work with the asphalt industry to discover new ways our technologies can help solve problems. Different entities have different needs: Government agencies need higher-performing, lower-cost roads; Contractors need easy-to-use, high-performing mixes; Refiners need a reliable, safe supply for their customers. We serve them all. In an industry where asphalts, aggregates, priorities and weather constantly change, we’re with you – from testing to plant start-up to the job site.

Evotherm® Warm Mix Asphalt Technology

Evotherm, our revolutionary warm mix asphalt (WMA) additive, is an alternative to traditional hot mix paving, delivering proven performance at the lowest production temperatures. We’ve paved enough Evotherm across the globe to build a road to the moon and begin the journey back. And we’re just getting started.

Evotherm Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

Evotherm LogoIngevity was the first chemical additive supplier to be included in the National Asphalt Pavement Association’s (NAPA) Emerald Eco-Label tool that provides supply chain-specific upstream environmental data for asphalt mixtures.

The EPDs denote Ingevity’s compliance with environmental impact assessment standards for manufacture of the warm mix additive by measuring and reporting the cradle-to-gate impacts of manufacturing and packaging, and assessing the material, energy, waste and emissions impacts of processing and transporting the raw additive materials.

Pavement Preservation

We provide an array of pavement preservation products that eliminate many traditional asphalt heating, mixing and transportation demands – saving time, energy and money, and ensuring product and worker safety. Our technical team matches the right emulsifier and design to your materials and conditions to create quality, high-performing emulsions that grow your business. We offer a full range of specialized cationic, anionic and amphoteric emulsifiers with additional, custom-formulated specialty additives.

Emulsions products for recycling applications:

Emulsion Cold Central Plant Recycling (CCPR) is the process by which the asphalt recycling takes place at a central location using a cold mix plant to mix emulsion with RAP. CCPR can use available RAP stockpiles and produce a highly cost-effective paving material preventing a valuable resource from being landfilled. CCPR is also appropriate when an existing pavement cannot be in-place recycled due to logistical reasons or must be removed to allow treatment of underlying materials. Some key benefits related to emulsion CCPR mixtures include:

  • 20-50% less expensive than conventional or new construction methods
  • Reduces greenhouse emissions by up to 50%
  • Can re-use up to 100% of existing materials
  • Same day return to traffic
  • Faster construction times usually by 20-40%
  • Crack disruption and improvement of pavement resistance to reflective cracking from the cold recycled layer
  • Enhanced durability from uniform bitumen film thickness
  • Long term moisture resistance from emulsifier adhesion improvement between new binder and RAP
  • Long pavement life (15-20 years when combined with appropriate wearing course)
  • Trends are that cold recycled mixtures are used in upper pavement layers and that thickness equivalency is getting closer to traditional HMA
