A common question in Balanced Mix Design (BMD) is: How will changes applied to meet requirements impact my mix?
This table outlines the relative Engineering (performance), Economic, and Environmental effects of specific strategies available to the contractor.
- Engineering reflects changes in mix quality and resistance to distress.
- Economic shows cost impacts.
- Environmental indicates changes in carbon footprint.
An overall ranking of Practicality is provided for each. Additional considerations and resources – including linked documents and Hey NAPA chats – are available for each area.
Disclaimer: The guidance tables and resources were prepared by the Balanced Mix Design (BMD) Implementation Working Group (IWG). The impacts and practicality of the top 5 to 7 strategies deemed most practical and under the contractor's control are provided to address three primary distresses. If these strategies are insufficient, a combination of strategies or a change in materials sources may be necessary.
