Ronald D. Kenyon


A native of Toledo, IA, Mr. Kenyon was the long-time President of the Ronald Kenyon Construction Company of West Des Moines, IA, until his retirement from that position in 1992. His firm was a Charter Member of the National Asphalt Pavement Association (NAPA) when the Association was founded as the National Bituminous Concrete Association (NBCA) in 1955.


Mr. Kenyon has a long history of pioneering in the development and implementation of innovations in the Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) Industry, particularly in drum mixing technology, the recycling and HMA paving materials, and equipment improvements later adopted on an Industry-wide basis.


Mr. Kenyon has also been active in the National Asphalt Pavement Association, serving on many committees and task forces and in various positions of national office, culminating in 1988 with his election as NAPA Chairman of the Board. A Charter Member of the Asphalt Paving Association of Iowa, he has also been extensively involved in various civic, community, and business organizations in the Des Moines-West Des Moines areas.


He has also been singularly involved with the NAPA Education Foundation, a member of the Board of Trustees since 1986, and as Chairman of the Board, 1989-93. He served as Chairman of the NAPA Education Foundation Fund-Raising Committee, which under his exemplary leadership successfully raised an endowment fund of $10 million in contributions from the asphalt industry. Leading to the establishment of the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT), the asphalt industry research center located in Auburn, AL. He has served as a member of the NCAT Board of Directors since 1989. In 1991, he was honored with his selection as "NAPA Man of the Year" for his efforts on behalf of NCAT and in 1991 the Ronald D. Kenyon Education & Research Award of the NAPA Education Foundation was established to recognize individuals for their outstanding contributions in asphalt research.
