“Caring for Asphalt Employees in Need”
Purpose: Provide immediate financial assistance to NAPA Member employee families who have suffered a fatality in an asphalt work zone or plant site.
Legal Structure: "NAPA Care"” operates under the auspices of the National Asphalt Pavement Association Research & Education Foundation, Inc. (NAPAREF), a 501 (c)3 organization.
Operation: All donations will be collected and distributed by authorized staff, including incident verification.
Fund Distribution: The Member company is responsible to report and verify the incident to NAPAREF. After review by the “NAPA Care” Committee, NAPAREF will over-night the check to the Member company, who will hand deliver the check to the affected family.
Fund Raising: The emphasis will be on raising funds from NAPA Associate Members; however any NAPA Member or affiliated organization may contribute if they so desire. The initial pledge goal is $300,000.
Amount of Gift: The gift per family will be in the $4,000 to $5,000 range.
Taxes: The donations are tax deductible. The recipient will not need to record the gift as income. Please consult your tax advisor.
Restrictions on Fund Usage: There are no restrictions on how recipient utilizes the gift. However, the deceased must have been a direct employee of a NAPA Member company, and the incident must have occurred in the actual asphalt paving work zone or plant site.
Donation Process: A check, along with the "NAPA CARE" donation form, should be made payable to NAPAREF and sent to NAPAREF, 5100 Forbes Blvd, Lanham, MD 20706 Attn: Carolyn Wilson. Donation forms can be downloaded below. Any donation will be accepted on a one-time basis. Donations of $5,000 or more may be paid over a five (5) year period. Contributors of $5,000 or more will be recognized for their generous support by becoming a member of the “NAPA Care” Emergency Benevolent Fund Founder’s Circle.
