NAPA Opposes Revenue Cut to Highway Trust Fund
The American Truck Dealers (ATD) recently led 116 industry organizations including the American Trucking Associations in encouraging legislators to suspend the 12 percent Federal Excise Tax (FET) on new heavy-duty trucks and trailers through 2021. The push to suspend the FET on Class 8 trucks has garnered support from 55 Democrats in the U.S. House, a sign of momentum as Congress weighs a new coronavirus relief bill. NAPA and several other associations strongly oppose the proposal, which would result in a $30 billion shortfall in the Highway Trust Fund (HTF) at a time when the transportation construction industry is looking to shore up the HTF.
