Foster Tomorrow's HMA Industry Leaders: Internships in HMA Technology

What is an Internship?

 A Learning Experience...

Students can obtain college credit and much needed experience while working in your professional environment.  Your mentoring exposes them to a variety of issues and challenges in the consturction of Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) pavements.  They prepare a professional quality report documenting their experience, and they receive feedback concerning their performance in your company.

An Opportunity to Exchange Ideas...

Interns bring fresh points of view and innovative ideas to your business.  Knowledge obtained in their class is applied to your day-to-day problems, resulting in increased efficiency and quality.  The use of computers, instrumentation, and statistics are some of the skills they bring to your operation.

A Commitment to Education...

Your involvement in the education process helps to enrich the academic experience of the interns you mentor.  A good internship can be the crowning experience of a student's college education.

Be the Difference!

Develop Leaders...

The internship experience provides tomorrow's infrastructure leaders with exposure to practical issues in the Hot Mix Asphalt industry and valuable practice in verbal and written communciation, experience necessary to foster the skills critical for tomorrow's leaders in the HMA industry.

Develop Experts...

Technical know-how is diminishing as experienced engineers and technicians retire early or are promoted to non-technical positions.  Replacement of such vital resources is in the industry's best interest.  What better way to replenish expertise than to promote technical understanding through practical training of future engineers and technicians?

Develop Ties...

An internship program allows your company to develop closer ties with universities and agencies.  Working with universities provides access to high-quality graduates for employment.  By training future agency leaders, your company will benefit from improved relationships with people who have been on the contractor's side of the table.

Reap the Benefits!

Improved Expertise...

Whether interns ultimately work for the HMA industry, highway agencies, or consultants, experience in the HMA industry promotes increased understanding of practical matters of specification interpretation, production, and product quality.  A higher level of knowledge throughout the field increases efficiency and promotes better communication between all parties involved in the construction of high quality HMA.

Potential Employees...

A good intern program is a positive experience for both you and the students.  It allows you to indentify superior, hard working perople - people who can make a difference in the future of your company.
