Emanuel John "Mike" Elliott


Mike Elliott received his education at Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland Marshall Law School and served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He began his career with F.D. Cummer & Sons Co., maker of the Cummer plant. The early years of his employment immersed Mr. Elliott in every facet of the asphalt industry - designing, manufacturing, erecting, and running asphalt plants. He built upon this early experience and during the following fifty years became a valuable contributor to the hot-mix asphalt industry.


Mr. Elliott was introduced to the road building industry when he got a job with a start-up company making asphalt plant burners and controls. He was instrumental in the design of improving burners for asphalt plants. In the summer of 1965, he and a small group of investors purchased the business which then became General Combustion Corp. and today is Gencor Industries, Inc., where Mr. Elliott serves as chairman.


Gencor Industries was introduced and Mr. Elliott have introduced approximately 95 innovations, some patented, others not, to the asphalt industry. Mr. Elliott has founded many successful companies in diverse fileds ranging from fast-food chains to high-tech enterprises in the fields of electronics and the nuclear sciences, as well as in the realm of heavy machinery and highway construction.


As a recognized national expert in the field, Mr. Elliott has contributed to NAPA publications and has served on many NAPA committees. He is past chairman of the Construction Industry Manufacturers Association (now known as Association of Equipment Manufacturers) and has served on the boards of directors of many national associations dealing with the transportation and highway construction industry.


Mr. Elliott's leadership efforts over the past 50 years have led to great contributions and significant advancements in the Hot Mix Asphalt industry.
